1941 Ford Engine and trans removal

Hi Everyone,

It's my first time pulling the engine and transmission out of my 1941 Ford. The plan is to get it out for a major over haul this winter. I've started out under the car by disconnecting the transmission mounts and now I'm trying to figure out the torque tube. Is it required to remove the entire rear axle and torque tube together? WI'll the torque tube pull out of the rear of the trans when I have the ball joint cover removed? Please see the picture attached of where torque tube mounts to the trans.

Thanks much! The help and advice is appreciated.

Trans will pull out of the torque tube connection. There is a universal joint inside the connection that slides onto the splined end of the drive shaft inside the tube.

You do not have to remove the rear end/torque tube to pull the engine.

Removing the rear end from the car does requires the rear end/torque tube to be removed as a unit.
The other option is to separate the engine from the trans and remove the two separately thus not needing to tilt the engine/trans combo so much to remove it.
Put a jack stand under the trans to support it if you go this way. Also much easier if you remove the hood.
Hope this helps.
Torchie.

Thanks Torchie!

So sounds like the torque tube and universal joint will just slip apart by pulling the engine forward as long as I have the torque tube "bell housing" disconnected. Thanks for the info!
