Dear Ford Barn Knowledge-Base,

Your insight into all things Early ford never ceases to amaze (or amuse at times) me.

My 1940 front seat is showing it's age with respect to the driver's side seat bottom springs.
As a result I have been looking for a replacement. My question is are these Type 77 B (three place with the flip up back rest) specific to 1940 or as in the case of someother 1940 Ford parts span a couple of model years?
May be easier to locate a seat bottom with a wider usage range.
Thank you for all of your help and entertainment.

Im in the same boat. The seat base I have is also in poor shape. Snyders is the only supplier I have found so far that has a new replacement base and its listed as 1939 and 1940 only. Not cheap, about $700 plus shipping

Try advertising in the wanted to buy section on Fordbarn and on the Hamb.
39 and 40 coupe seats are basically the same except for the tracks.

Remove the upholstery/padding and carefully inspect the springs, wires, and frame for damage and wear. Most or all the parts are made of metal and can be repaired usually. Sagging springs can be stretched back to original height and the support wires can be replaced or straightened etc. Brakes or damage to the frame can be patched with sheet metal and welded or bent back to shape.
The spring assemblies are quite repairable with a little patience.

Like other have said, tare it apart repair the metal if you find any bad and get the diameter and amount of coils Synders will sell just the springs. Good Luck!

Rebuild what you got. Tear it down to the springs and make necessary repairs. Then put in new padding then upholstery Been there done that
