1940 truck

riding with a friend in his 40 P/U last Saturday with a 4:11. Cruises great at 65. Speed confirmed with GPS on my iPhone. Pushed it to70 with no ill effects.

3:78 gears in my 39 pickup, rebuilt engine, i have had it up to 70 no problem. I could push it further but no need too.

*When you said "V8" I am assuming a flathead V8 engine

I'm new to old fords and was wondering what the top speed of a 1940 1/2ton pickup with a v8 is. thanks,Phil:cool:

I had 4:11's in mine but this made the engine run to high at 55 or better. I put in 3:54's and now I can cruise just fine at 65.

Just another data point. 40 pickup, Stock 81A bore to 3 3/16, very mild Sneider 248F cam, 3:54 rear with radial tires, Steering and front end completely redone, cruises very happy at 75, finger tip steering, plenty of throttle left even at theis speed.
Wonderful ride, but everything has to be done right or it might not be fun at these or higher speeds

It's a bone stock truck, I'm trying to decide if I want it as a daily driver, or just to put around town. Thanks for all the replys.

I had a 1/2-ton '41 Stake-bed years ago. It ran at its stride at about 50mph. Never knew the rear ratio. I was just in tune with the sound of the engine.....

Was an interesting truck. It was Washington (or Jefferson?) Blue. Original
paint was very old and faded. You could barely read on the doors:

L & L Grove Service
Lakeland, Fla.

I wish I had kept it. Probably a street rod now. Some guy in Orlando bought it from me.
