1940 pedal frustration!

I've got two sets of pedals, each was sold to me as being absolutely positively for a '40. Well neither of them fit. They appear to be '46 - 48 pedals. The first set was bought at Hershey, he was POSITIVE they were for a 40; cuz "the tag says so", the second set was bought from ebay where the guy was equally POSITIVE they fit a '40

On each set, the Clutch arm ends up in the middle of the frame and the brake arm hits the x-member, obviously they are for a wider car.

In looking at the '40 cutaway on another thread, those pedals are almost vertical, whereas these two sets bend to the left considerably.

Does any one have a set of real 40 pedals? OR ... Can I bend the arms on the sets I have?

Here are the numbers that should be forged into a 1940 passenger car pedal set. I'm pretty sure the same BRACKET (01A-2467) was used all the way thru 1948. DD

PEDAL BRACKET: 01A-2467
BRAKE PEDAL: 01A-2455
CLUTCH PEDAL: 01A-7520

09A is 40 Mercury

Ken is correct about the '40 Merc! I'm not certain what a 7519 is, but I'd bet it plays-off of the 7520 numerical indicator in Ford-speak meaning clutch pedal. Almost sounds to me like you have two different clutch pedals. DD

You are correct about the bracket being the same through 1948. This photo depicts a proper '40 Ford assembly

Per my book:

Clutch Pedal: 01A 7520 A 40-41 & 09A 7500 A 42-48
Brake Pedal: 01A 2455 40-41 & 09A 2455 42-48
Bracket Assy: 01A 2473 40-48

A 2467 is a Truck/COE bracket, can't find a 01A, It does list a 01T for a 40-47 Comm & Truck (2467 is the number V8coopman posted, doesn't match my book!)

I can not find a listing for a D3A 7520 or 09A 7519 in my books.

It is really helpful if you know the numbers before looking for the parts, both venders and suppliers can tell you anything (and most likely don't know any better).

from what I could tell:
D3A-7520 A1
09A-7519 A2
I am nearly certain that 7519 number doesn't appear until 1949. It is applied to a clutch pedal.
Also, pretty sure the 7520 number stopped with 1948 and is also a clutch pedal. What "D3A" is I have no clue.
Regardless, you have a home made "bundle" there... not factory.
I am hazarding a guess to think you have misread the numbers... easy to do.

J Seery, I couldn't find the number either, this is my first '40, so when someone is certain that they fit a '40 and I'm not certain they won't, I believe them. My bad, lesson learned.. I hope! :-)

Kube, over 70 years plus I guess it's possible (LOL) that ford parts have been swapped countless times and become what someone thinks they are, ...'40 pedals in this case.

But all ofyou guys have been a big help and your input is defintely appreciated!

I'm going to need you all again! (see my album to see what I'm up against... and why I have so many "what the hell was I thinking" moments)

Rest assured, you are not alone!!!

So I take it the sedan doesn't have a brake/clutch assembly ether?
The sedan's pedals were cut out with a torch (taking the frame section with 'em), it was a parts car for a '34; brakes, pedals etc were gone before I got the bones. The frame is about to break in two, the front doors, dash, some of the floor, steering, mechanicals - brakes and the little things that add up fast to $$$ are saveable. The engine/trans is complete but the heads were left off for years and the engine block filled with water. I didn't cut up a nice sedan to save a rotted coupe, wouldn't be right, ...basically trying to make one '40 out of two bad ones.

Hey! ..and while I have your attention!

Are '39 and '40 coupe seats the same?

I've also got an extra set of 40 pedals (assembly), available, in case you need to know.
Not home right now, so patience, and would also need to verify p/n's to be sure.
I don't have the pads shown in Kube's picture.

They are the same if your '40 coupe is simply a "coupe". That is, NO auxiliary seats. There was no such thing as a Business coupe in 1939 - what some guys incorrectly term an Opera Coupe.

LOL! Hi Art? How are you! Tail lite warranty?!?!

I still think got a pretty good deal on the sedan!!! I'm going to use a lot of it!
