1940 Inside Door Handle Latch Question

Dear Early V-8ers,

I am having a problem with the inside door handle latch on my 1940 coupe. When I try to raise the door handle to lock the driver's side door the handle feels very weak. The door shuts fine and releases as well.

I assume a spring has weakened or broken on the inside latch mechanism. ( a triangular shape)
So assuming it is a spring, can you still find these springs? Who sells them and what is the part number. And if so how difficult is it to replace.

I see a couple of places offer a replacement latch and online a party has some used latches for sale.

Should I try to replace or my preferred method, fix what I have?

Tahnk you so much for your knowledge and advice.

CW Moss has the springs you need.

Suggest you buy all the 1940 Ford door latch springs shown so that you can replace them all. Call CW Moss to verify items are what you need and in stock. Postage will probably be more than spring costs.

Other vendors like DRAKE and CARPENTER may also have what you need. Also, check ebay for a new latch.

"Kube' refers to it as the remote spring in his post #7 here. While you have your door panel off replace both springs, if needed. Replaceing the spring inside the latch requires much patience and dexterity.
