Where the Driver side upper rear Hood Hinge bolts to the hood I have an issue. The coller that protrudes that the hinge rides on has blown out on one side and will not hold or support the bolt. I would appreciate anyones suggestions or fixes that have been used with some sucess.

Thank you 59ab. I have been lurking here for awhile now and have picked up some valuable info. Sorry that I don't have much to add to the mix however.

Buy a steel 'Tee" nut of the appropriate size and weld in place. Usually found at better hardware stores. While not exactly elegant, it does work.

So, are you saying the threads are stripped AND the shoulder is missing???? Two problems with one hole??

JWL, My best guess is that about 60% of the shoulder is missing on the side and the collar is only about a 1/2" deep. There is not enough threads left to get a bite. Yes two problems, one piece. The steel replacement is the ticket.

19Fordy, Your request for a photo spured me to really take a look trying to take a photo. Flashlite, mirror on a stick, ect. It appears that in the past there was a poor attempt at a repair. Once the hood is removed and turned upside down it can be fixed fairly easy with a bit of fabrication and welding. I was being lazy and looking for an easy way out.

Thanks to all for your input.

I have done this repair on numerous hoods. As my restoratuions MUST be top notch, I (unfortunately) have to take the proverbial "long road". That is, I remove the brace from the hood and install a new threaded sleeve for the hinge arm to shoulder upon.
Lots more effort required but the hood can be fit as it should and will operate correctly.

i have the same problem im think im going to cut some new ones on the metal lathe and drill out the old one and weld it in.

I drilled out the left over threads so that I could weld a nut flush with the surface. Then made a bushing the same length and size of the original shoulder. Works perfectly and cannot be detected as not being original.

Not THE way, just the way I did it.

Good luck
