1940 Ford wipers

I was at a show and someone asked me if I was sure that my windshield wipers were on the correct way. The more I thought about it I really wasn't sure. I started looking a pictures of 1940 Fords and then large majority had the wipers facing outward, and I thought that was the way they went untill I seen a picture of two 1940 Sedan Deliveries on a forum being given to a charitable organization in 1943, The wipers were facing inward. I would not think that someone would go to the trouble of making them work that way on three year old cars.

Thanks

I don't have a conclusive answer to your question, but after checking my copy of Mike Kubarths' 1940 Ford restoration book, all the photos I found in it, including factory authorized artist illustrations show the wiper arms pointing toward the outer edges of the windshield. I'm fairly sure that Mike's attention to detail even in that part of assembly wouldn't be missed.

The original wiper motor has a parking circuit for the vacuum so they always stop wipers outward.
