1940 Ford Standard Grille Center

What are the differences between an original NOS 1940 Ford standard grille center and an aftermarket or reproduction version. How can I tell them apart? Do the aftermarket or reproductions have the part number cast in as the original? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I can't tell you for certain about the "standard" grille but can tell you the deluxe grille halves have a date at the very bottom. It's small, almost undetectable to the naked eye, but it's there. Perhaps that was done on the "standard" grille as well.
Also, you won't find 'Drake' cast on it. I'm pretty sure he was not a supllier to Ford back in the day even though he states often enough "exact copy, blah, blah, blah..."

Original Std grill center has ford p/n embossed.

I just checked my 40 STD center, and it has an 01A part number on the inside, just above the crank hole. It's quite small, and raised, so the numbers must have been indented into the die.

Mart.
