If you don't have a proper punch, a piece of 3/8" water pipe beveled to a sharp edge will do the trick. yes, 3/8". remember water pipe is measure on the inside diameter so the outside will allow a tight fit for the valve nipple.
Use a little Indian Head Shellac available at any NAPA.
It doesn't matter which hole you use in the right head. Factory was the front hole...
Actually there should only be ONE hole in the right cylinder head and that should be facing forward. Without a heater, that hole received a hexagon head - brass plug.I've also used the water pipe method however; I put a split wooden 2x4 inside the hose so as not to tear the inside of the hose once the hole is cut. Indian Head Shellac is a good idea although I've never used any sealant and never had a leak. I also use the rear hole in the passenger side head, to install the shut off valve, the forward hole is for the temp. sending unit.

If you have two holes, you have incorrect head(s). Also, if you have two holes, the valve goes towards the front. The hose was meant to wrap around the front of the manifold / carburetor base, NOT behind it.
On a 40, there was only ONE water temperature sending unit and that was installed in the left head.
Hi - where did you find the heater features and installation on the web site? I have a 40 convertible and '40 heater, and am trying to figure out the heater location. Thanks.
