1940 Ford Deluxe outer Grille sides - Differences?

19Fordy, I had the same thoughts when I magnified the picture for adding to Ford Barn. I will contact the owner and let him know. Regards Mercman <><

This is the cover of the Australian Sales Brochure for the 1940 Fords. You can see the wider bars that support the small Trim Strips, and the lesser number of Grill Bars.

...and did anyone pay attention to the style of the bumper guards? '39s?

Did you realize that '39 STANDARD and '39 DeLuxe Fords use two completely different bumpers? Standards still utilized the holdover '37 & '38 bumpers. DeLuxe bumper is symmetrical with indented stripe, full-length, midway up across the bumper. DD

All Australian 1940 Fords got the carry-over 1939 Ford Style Bumper Guards / Over Riders. This is the front view of the Sedan with the 1939 Ford Tear Drop Tail Lights.

Here is a picture of the other 1940 Ford Deluxe Sedan in our local V8 Club. This one is Body Number 404. Notice the earlier model bumpers and over riders that all Australian 1940 Fords used.

In first photo you can see the vertical vented rib in this OEM early production 1940 coupe transmission. (The VIN # on the transmission matches the VIN# on the frame. Window glass is dated 1939.)

Second photo shows later style vent "button" that is "pressed into" the transmission case. PS: (Heater is not correct color and anti-chatter rods have been modified to fit 1950 Merc bellhousing. Acorn nuts on rear transmission mount are from front spindle locking pins.)
