jUST BOUGHT NEW DASH KNOBS FOR MY 40, NEED TO KNOW WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO INSTALL KNOB TO THE COWL VENT ARM WITHOUT POUNDING IT IN ? WHAT IS THE CORRECT WAY ? tHANKS IN ADVANCE

You'll find it best to open up the slot just a bit with a a thin file before attempting to install the knob.
You'll also find soon enough the know will break apart at the seam. Be prepared to glue it.

I wonder if you put the knob in boiling water first would work or in the microwave.FWIW
