I'm doing a 1940 Ford & want to paint it Folkstone Grey Went to the local paint store they are their formula calls for a brownish tan color I think they are mixing Sahara Tan I think it is a grey color from what I can tell from the chips & picture's on the web ( I know that is tough to tell ) Can someone tell me is Folkstone grey a tanish color or a grey color

Grays and tans can be "misread" all too often. Our eyes (especially men) see these colors very differently.
That being said, having restored more than a few 1940 Fords to very high point status, I'd insist on seeing "gray".

Kube nailed it with that photo. My 40 was originally Folkstone Grey and you could tell it was grey with no trace of tan or any other color.

Ok Thank you guys That is the color I'm seeing on the chips ( I know there is some variation ) Hopefully I can get this squared away with my paint store

I would get a copy of the restoration guidelines (I am sure it has color chips in it but you might ask) from the Early Ford V8 Club and ignore the paint store. Once it is painted the wrong color it is quite a job to change it. The is a separate section on the Early Ford V8 Club site (earlyfordv8.org) for the forty named the "New 1940 Book" and that would be a good place for your question.

Folkstone Gray.
Beside a gray it's looks fawn.
Beside a fawn it looks gray.
A beautiful colour that seemed to fall out of favour for a long time.
That's the colour my 39 deluxe convertible coupe will be - eventually.
With a tan Hartz top - not black or drab as original.
My choice.
