1940 Deluxe Toe-in

Hi All:
I have a question on the toe-in specs. My Ford book says 1/16" of toe-in, but I don't know how that's measured. Tried a few searches, but didn't find anything. Is that 1/16" on each tire, or total? Is the 1/16" the difference between the front and the back of the rim (16"), or is it measured at the tire tread? Seems modern cars are spec'ed in degrees. Can modern alignment racks work with the 1/16" spec.

Thanks,
Nick

Modern alignment racks can work quite well. The 1/16" is total. However, I go a tad past that on cars that are to be driven. That makes the car stay straight a bit nicer and makes it easier to return to straight after a turn.

Yes, the tires will wear just a tiny bit quicker but in reality, they will rot long before this is a concern.

Thanks Kube, but just so I'm clear, there should be a tad more than 1/16" difference in the distance between the middle treads at the front of the tires than at the rear of the tires? Or is the string method better measuring at the front of the rim compared to the back of the rim?
Thanks,
Nick

Nick,
I, when doing the string method, go a full 1/8" (total) at the tire.
