It seems like there was some discussion regarding why they flip up in the corners? Installation or manufacturer difference is what I recall, but a search dosen't find anything. Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks, Joe.

There are a couple manufacturers on the seals. Drake's have moulded corners so they don't flip up. Of course he's been out of them for some time. The others don't have moulded corners and can't make the sharp bend as well.

Bills1020 is right on about this. Even with drakes (when and IF you can get them) a little heat from a heat gun helps relax the corners nicely.

I will try the heat. These are Drakes I believe, although a few years old prior to install. Thanks for the replys.

One of my rear window seals won't lie flat in the corner as described in original thread. I would be willing to try heat gun, but I'm concerned about paint damage. Is there a technique or heat range that would instill more confidence on using this technique and not hurting new paint job? Thanks

Current issue of Street Rodder has a tech article (about something totally unrelated to window rubber) that says a good temp for paint is 120, no more than 150, which can be measured with an infrared temp guage. I would think this temp range would work for rubber. Good luck

Just a note , before you guys get all carried away with heat gun usage be advised that some of the problems with rear window glass seal has to do with the thickness of the glass used and the accuracy of the glass cut to the original template size. Both too big or too small replacement glass will cause seal fit issues.

I think that I will pull the glass back out and compare glass to original, then start over. Thanks Dick Spadaro for your input.

Dick is 100% correct about the size of the glass. It needs to be right on the money for size to make the new gasket fit correctly. I used my original glass for patterns and the rubbers fit correctly.
