1940 Bumper Tips on 1946 Bumpers?

Hello Fellas,

I've seen a few photos of '46-'48 passenger cars with what appear to be the 1940 era bumper tips. Am I correct? I do not see bumper tips in any of the catalogs for '46-'48's so I have to assume they are interchangeable or adaptable to the '46's. I would like to use them on my "new" sedan (if I can get it running) but don't want to buy them if they are not a direct fit. I'm hoping the bolt holes are in the same location on the outboard bumper irons. Hope someone with them on their car will comment. Thanks!

Ford did offer bumper tips for 46-48 Fords, possibly 42 also, the 40 ones are different and I fo not believe they will fit

Flathead48 is correct. The '40 guards will not fit '42 - '48. They will fit the 41 special model.

Just throwing-out these tips as seen on a '41. DD

1941 Super Deluxe "wingtips" will work on a 1942 Deluxe bumper? 1942 Super Deluxe are the same as 1946-48's.

Th bumper "tips" that are shown on the '41 Convertible should be facing out, not up and down. Don't get the impression as to that is the way they were intended to be used. I have a set but I don't use them on my '46 Wagon. To me, they make the front end look too bulky.

woodiewagon46: Yes, those bumper wingtips just don't look "right", but I guess they are. Here's another photo showing what looks to be 40 wing tips on a 41 Ford.

ANSWER: It seems there were two designs for bumper wing tips in 1941,
depending on bumper design and model of car. Perhaps the 40 tips would fit on the basic 41 plain bumper. They do look similar.
