1939 transmission

Howdy!

I've got a 1931 Ford Model A that has been equipped with a 1939 transmission and a Borg Warner overdrive. This changes the "normal" routing of the speedometer cables on a Model A completely.

There are 2 cables:
1) The output cable, which is coming from the back of the overdrive, and going to the "connector/clutch/gearcase" part that is mounted to the back of the transmission. This part is marked 9-37 which indicates a 4:11 rear end ratio, which is what my car has.

2) The second cable leaves this connector/clutch/gear case part on the transmission and goes to the speedometer.

The first cable works fine. If the car runs, the cable turns. The second part from the transmission to the speedometer doesn't work. I bought a new cable to cover the easy part. Still doesn't turn. This means the problem is in the connector/clutch/gear case unit.

There is no gear in the connector/clutch/gear case thingi. It's basically a cable in, cable out piece. Such a part does not exist on the Model A which has a "speedometer gear case" with a gear in there, but this one has an input and an output.

I wonder, may it be possible to buy such a connector/clutch/gear case somewhere? Should there be a gear in there, even if the reading comes from the overdrive unit?

Thanks, guys!

Thanks!

no gear needed, it has to read the RPM's of the output shaft going to the differential. The cable has to be connected together. get a new cable and cable sheath , do away with the old cables ,and it will work.
