But you can't use the 9 1/2 pressure plate because fingers are for the small late model throwout...
Here's what I have learned over the years: Late flywheels came in 11" truck, 9 1/2 (common) and 10" heavy duty passenger (rare), and Borg & beck for '49--early 1951 Merc and '51-53 Merc.
Pressure plates: The 11" truck and the early version of the B&B Merc are fully compatible, disc and plate and throwout, with early Ford transmissions. The 11" is toodamnheavy for hotrods. Late 1951-53 Merc plate and disc are incompatible with early Ford but can be swapped keeping same flywheel. There are modern replacements for the somewhat scarce B&B plate.
Late Ford passenger 9 1/2 and 10" parts have wrong fingers for early throwout, disc has wrong spline. 10" can be swapped out for '48 Ford parts but is rare. Clutch rebuilders can rebuild the 9 1/2 plate with early fingers and put early center into disc apparently.
So...those are the issues and problems with crossing 49th street. The commonest parts are no good for the early swap...
NAPA part numbers for early clutch parts would be good to know...few NAPA's have anyone really good at digging in the catalogs any more.
