1939 PU Horn Installation Pix

A little late here but some pics (horn location) and rear shocks/bracket from my tear down in 2010, seems so long ago:D
Tinker my 39 had those pictured brackets modified with shocks:eek: You have a nice original set up there. Scott

Thanks for the pictures. I like the trumpet horn. My horn sounds like a meep! If that makes sense. thanks again for the Picts. Great project. Would like to see updated images or a link.

Okay since we have a few 38/39 guys checking this thread.

How about this? anyone else have these brackets on the rear of their truck? I'm guessing they are if a shackle breaks it'll catch the spring and you can get the load home.

Took some photos of my '39 with the helper spring still installed but I had to take the brackets off so I could install the new tube shocks.

My '39 PU has a shield which is bolted to the front cross member in two places and to the left and right lower frame with two bolts each. The shield is below the one horn and is about 12" deep. The shield must be removed to service the horn. My truck also has overload springs: it was a Kansas DOT truck and has several 'extras'.

That shield looks like it could be an easy DIY project. Could you post some dimensions and detail pictures? Is there a 1938 version and a 1939 version? And what would be the differences?

Wow long thread!
Good hearing from you lovers of the horse collar. My horn is hung sideways DIY. Thru Dumb luck several years ago I bought 50 or so horn brackets for $25. A couple fit so I have two ahooga horns that don't work. Truck now has a new fuel filter. Everything else is as it has been for many years. Too much fun. Wait, I forget: we replaced the ******. The U joint was loose and rubbed the inner collar squealing in third gear. ****** was fine other wise and it is now a spare.
