Right now, I'm planning on painting the pickup gray with black interior. The way I understand it , the dash cover, A pillar covers, header panel, and rear window trim should be painted gray as well...??

Should the interior steel door panels also be gray or should they be painted another color(ie. black)?

Oh, one other thing...I'm thinking the windshield frame should be gray as well. Is this correct?

Thank you for your help.

My 39 pickup was. All orignal when I pulled it out of a barn .And the interior was the same as the exterior dark green . The black interior would look great . But plan on loosing points if you are going to show it in a V8 national show. SUNSHINE...

My pickup was originally Gull Grey and the interior was all grey. This included the dash, doors, rear window frame, seat riser and header panel with black door panels. My windshield frame was black. The headliner cardboard and seat covering was green. When I painted the truck, I went with a different color and painted the interior that color with a black dash cap and black door panels and black headliner and seat covering.

I'm not building it as a show pickup, but still like it as close to factory as feasibly possible. Are you saying that the seat and cardboard should be gray also? Thanks for the feedback.

Basically, I am asking what all should be black.....Floorboard, etc.

Stenny, do you have any pictures you could post? I was initially thinking of doing what you did minus the dash cover.

If you are not going to show it , Why not do what you like . Then you could always change it. You asked what it should be ! Sunshine

What it should be? As in authentically?
All of the interior sheet metal - dash panel, window frame pieces, floor, doors, "roof", etc. were body color. The seat backrest, seat cushion and cardboard panels were green.

Ford outfitted these trucks with a dark green cardboard type material for the headliner and a green vinyl seat covering. If it was a 38 pickup the door inserts were the same green cardboard material.

If originality does not matter then use whatever color material for the headliner and seats that satisfies you.

OK, I've got it now. Green seat and cardboar was the only color offered. Not sure I will like that with the gray. I may have to change that to black...?? Awesome responses from everyone.

Thanks a bunch.

I believe that the seats and cardboard were available in 3 or 4 different colors. Your truck, your choice.

'38's had cardboard door panel's, '39's had metal panels. I'll try to snap some photos of my interior tonight and post them.

Kube I think Bill means aftermarket color options available now, not the extensive original factory options of only green. :)

That could very well be. However, his stamen was in past tense so I was forced to believe he was speaking about what "was" and not what's available today.
The original post had inquired about what was "original".
