1939 Horn wire or horn rod?

Guys, my, truck had a "hornectomy" before I bought it and replaced it with a button screwed to the steering column. Originally, did the '39 trucks have a horn rod with a headlight switch on the dash? Thanks.

Your truck had a horn button in the middle of the steering wheel. The horn button was also the middle of the headlight switch knob, which rotated left and right. The horn button is on the end of a rod that is slightly longer than your steering column. The rod goes through the steering box and works the headlight switch which is held on the bottom of your steering box with a wire "bale".

Sorry, I just read this and realized how confusing it sounds.

You really do need to get a parts book and look at it. In the 28-48 Ford passenger and commercial(pickup) green book on page 88 you will see a very good exploded view of a steering gear that will answer your question. Remember that the mechanical parts of a pickup and passenger car are the same for your year.
