Can anyone tell me what material ‘39 Ford transmission gears and shafts are made of? Grade of steel? Also, what Rockwell hardness they were originally hardened too? I’ve read an article in an old Hot Rod book that talks about annealing the gears/shafts and then re-hardening to a less brittle Rockwell hardness. I’m looking into trying this but, need this information before starting the process.
