1939 Deluxe Grill Trim Installation

I am trying to install several of the vertical grille trim pieces on my 1939 Deluxe. I have what I believe are the correct grille trim clips (91A-20001-B). I placed the clips within the trim piece and then tried to push the clip into the mounting holes on the grille. But I have not been successful in pushing the clips into the holes (worried about damaging the trim with too much force). Are the clips installed first into the grille and then the trim is slid onto the clips? Can someone explain how they have performed this task?

No, the clips go into the vertical pieces and you then push them into the holes in the grill shell. It may be that the new clips are larger than the originals if they won't cooperate with a reasonable amount of force. You could try enlarging the holes ever so slightly until you get a snug fit.

You could smear a little grease on each of the clips beforehand.
Better not to enlarge the holes.
Tapping them in firmly one at a time with a rubber hammer usually does the trick.

Chris, I did this and those re-pro clips are not the same as the original. Thus my suggestion to very slightly maybe clean out the holes to the original diameter.
