Dose anyone have any pictures from early manuals or just old pictures of how the engines were removed in a 38'-47' Ford Cabover back in the day ??

I have seen a few pictures over the years that showed an engine being removed thru the front but I think there was a bracket on a cherry picker that was made to remove the block thru the front of the cab...??

I could be imagining all this too ...!

I was doing some work on the engine in the frame/cab of my 47' but now unfortunately I need to remove the whole engine to get to the back of the block....

No .... I am not going to remove the transmission ...i have a lift but no transmission jack..
Transmission weighs a lot and you can not get it out thru the top...

If you have one or ever worked on one of these trucks ...you will understand...

I just wanted to see how it was done back in the day....do not need instructions or tips and
pointers ....just pictures please...

I can just put a hoist equalizer bar on it a get it out the front..

Thank you in advance ..

I can't answer cause mine was already missing the engine when I got it. But it looks like to me it came out the front. My core support came with my truck and because it was out tells me it came out the front. If came out the door, no need to remove the core support.
The end of my cherry picker slides out, so I was going to make a end to slide in that would be level to the engine. I have a carb plate to lift with, but if intake is off that would work to just bolt a chain tight to the intake. Picking it up just enough to get it out.

I can’t answer your question but I really dig your truck, please post pictures of your progress and have fun.

Our (modified) 1941 is set up so the block and transmission (SB Chev + TH400) come out the front. I don't remember how much prep removal (carbs, manifolds, etc) has do be done first.

I have a reprint of the Ford, Mercury and Lincoln 1946-1948 Service Manual that I bought in 1979.It's a Polyprint Books About Ford #V24. Don't know if its still in print but on page 157 is a picture of an engine cradle that is attached after removal of the grill and radiator. Looks like probably a K R Wilson tool available for dealerships. Not something shop built and probably has a companion attachment that would be bolted to a tractor lift or fork life. Actual use is not shown. Hope the pages are attached. The next page #158 says "Note, On the cab over engine truck use cradle to remove engine from compartment.

Hope this helps

Hi
Thank you for the post of that pic ..!
I am pretty sure that was the pic I ran across years ago , back then I did not pay much attention because I never thought I would have to do this and wrote it off as old technology.
Looks complicated and I think my old cherry picker will be just fine..with the balance bar..
But you never know , sometimes the old way was and is the best or only way ...!

Thank you again for all the responses ...

Ron
