1938 ford horn location

Can someone please tell me where in the engine compartment the horns are located on the 1938 ford coupe. I've searched google for pictures and can't find any. Thanks Mike

On the standard down low under the radiator. Think you need to ID which model you are dealing with. On the standard, somewhat similar to the 37. My knowledge on the deluxe is limited, but believe the horns were located up on the drivers inter fender panel.

OK, there is a panel located under the radiator that has two large holes in it. The horns mount in this area. There was an L shaped bracket that both horns are bolted to. Maybe someone has a photo they can post. (by the way, this is all from memory, I haven't looked in years!)View attachment 350865

these are from a '38 Deluxe. I don't know if standard is different. I think the trumpet style horns started in '39.

Fond some holes that match the brackets that are on one set of horns that I have, If I use them the front of horns stick out below the fenders. I also have a set that looks like the ones on a 35/36 ford. The ones that stick out below the fenders are the 38 model you show in the picture. I think a picture is what I need. Thanks JSeery!

40cpe. The horns I have and that came with the car don't look the Deluxe horns they are like the ones in the pictures JSeery posted. Tks for your reply I appreciate it. Mike

I have some of those horns and brackets if anyone is interested. Could be 37 deluxe or 38 standard, it seems. ????

I am new here, and did not notice the date of the thread...the comments. Need to learn your terms on here.:
I have a 1938 Standard Coupe. The horns mount through two holes, on the member across in front of the radiator. They MOUNT on a flange that sticks out that has three holes: That serves as the ground for the horns. Must be clean, accordingly for good ground. Each horn has a wire lead, that meet to the horn relay. Mine are not mounted yet. However, if you touch each "lead from each horn" one to pos, one to neg..they will SOUND...blow. The relay is to bring more "juice from your feed down to the relay, which gives more power, or sound increased, at the horns. some older ones before the 38, probably the 37? did not have a relay.
MY PROBLEM IS: I cannot find where they had mounted on this car, the horn relay to the frame, as mentioned above. Cannot locate any horn relay at all..so wondering if someone might help me out on this?

Where do I mount the horn relay on the 38 coupe? Would appreciate it if someone reads this. Thanks.

Do you have the 38-39 Ford book that was put out by the Early Ford V-8 Club of America? If not it is a wealth of information for anyone who owns a 38 or 39 Ford. It should answer a lot of your questions.

1956 Ford, barn junk has not been on this forum since 12/27/2021 by his public profile.

on 38 deluxe there are a bracket bolted to top of frame rail just a little way behind radiator, with 2 small bolts, check your frame there will be 2 holes there about 1 1/4'' apart, the bracket bolts there, then horns points out under the radiator, then a brace bolts to crossmember, with a u shaped end on it, the horns rests on these, 1 bolts holds the brackets

Old Fred, do you have the inner grille panel on your car where the horns pass through to the front. If you are missing that panel let me know as I have one. You can send me a private message.

Thank you, I'm sorry I did not see this post. Have been under the weather lately, I do have the horns and the proper mounting yes. I appreciate your post. Mine is a 38 Standad Coupe. The horns each have ONE wire, they GROUND to the frame on a "lip" that extends out a few inches and has three holes in it, that match the three bolts that are still with the horn. They do ground to the mounting piece. Must be "ground off" top of frame, bottom of horn mount, for GROUND. They are supposed to go together, "a y" to a single lead to the relay. Also, like an other post here, I have NO relay. I am installing one, and then the lead goes to the solenoid. One of the wires go to the "horn rod" and light switch housing. The rod goes through the middle of the housing, spring loaded, and when you push the horn button inside the car, it grounds..and that's supposed to blow the horns. Haven't got them hooked up yet, but I will post how it torns out so maybe someone else could use the help. Thanks Again, Old Fred
