Currently working on the rear for my 38 coupe. I would like to replace the solid driveshaft with one in better condition. It is the one with 6 splines on both ends. The read end splines are worn and the coupling pin was broken when I disassembled it. I found one with decent splines but the center bearing surface was worm. These things seem to be harder to find then hen's teeth. Does anyone know a source? Thanks.

You could use the new driveshaft, if you replaced the center brg in the torqe tube. Skip Haney makes a "kit" to replace the brg and repair the surface of the shaft itself. You will have to knock the brg out of the old torqe tube. Original "Ford" are very hard to find and very $$$$$$$$$.

A couple years ago I was helping with a 40 pickup with the same problem, the coupler was loose on the drive shaft and the pin was broken. A new drive shaft was not available and we didn't want to lose the good center bearing surface. We put a new pin in the coupler to locate it on the driveshaft and measured the location. We then rotated the coupler to a different spline at the same depth and welded the end of the coupler to the driveshaft and plug welded using the pin holes to the drive shaft. It worked out well for us.

Just catching up with this thread. I have a replacement center bearing and made an installation tool for it. I got the old center bearing out already. I will definitely consider 38 coupe's approach of rotating the pinion spline coupler and welding it to the shaft with plug welds in the former pin hole. That way I can use the original driveshaft which has a good center bearing surface. Thanks.

I have found a solid driveshaft is very good condition on an Iron Trap Garage ebay listing. The pinion splines are only slightly worn and will work well with a new spline coupling. I will install new rivets and tack weld the heads so that if they get sheared off the parts will stay with the shaft.
