1938 engine bearing troubles

I'm starting to wonder if the "1938 original 221 one ton" is correct. The crank journals measure 2.4" but the bearings i bought to replace are way too thin though the internal measurement seems right. I measured the piston bore and came up with 3.187 which is close to a 39 Mercury. The outside measurement of the original bearings are 2.7". Any ideas???

Is the block stamped ERP anywhere? Some blocks were linebored oversize and require special bearings. On the box you have it says standard crankcase diameter. You may have an oversize crankcase diameter if I understand what you are saying about the fit. These bearings were common once, but not anymore.

I had the crank ground .010 and thought the bearings would fit. The truck is a one ton and already was wondering if the bearings were extra thick due to that, if so any suggestions for sources...I will look for more markings tomorrow.

Hi are you bearings marked in any way with part numbers etc. That would help.
I think Flathead is onto it because the thickess of the two shell looks very different.

Most original "Ford" bearings will be marked in the oil groove, there will be a letter next to the "ford" script, that letter will tell the size when used with the "green book"
Ford also made special service bearings to be able to use your original crank with a later block that would be thicker than normal so the smaller size crank could be used with a later block ---and to make it more confusing there are also bearings for oversized main bores in blocks.
