1937 temp gauge probe location

I've been slowly assembling a 37 ford truck I bought that was in pieces and am a little stuck with the coolant sensor bulb and its location in the engine. The hole on the head was plugged with a bolt that had been in there quite some time. Once I removed it I found that the capillary tube wouldn't fit in the hole. I was able to clean the hole out some and got the tube to fit but there is no way to get it to fit and thread the nut into place. I think I'm missing a bushing that goes into the head that the capillary tube and nut fit into. Can anyone help me out and tell me what I'm missing?

The original [21 studhead] head were tapped 5/8 NF with a 45 degree seat for the temp gauge. Those later 24 stud engines had a different temp probe [electric] and the head are tapped 3/8 pipe thread. You'll need an adapter to make it all work.

Just to put some closer to this thread and maybe help someone in the future I found the adapter bushing needed to install the original gauge. The old steel bushing was broke in the head. I managed to drill most of it out and clean the rest out with a 3/8 npt tap. I got the bushing at Napa part number g60615-0606. It's a 3/8 npt male to 5/8 female bushing.
