1937 Pickup transmision question

I have a 1937 1/2 ton pickup that I purchased and never saw the truck move but I was told it ran fine. It has a 1952 Flat head and the transmission seems original and I looked it up and it is a 1936 serial number. In my process to restore the trucks chassis, I removed the motor and transmission from the truck in one piece and cleaned them. I installed the transmission and engine back onto the restored chassis and having an issue. Never touched the clutch or anything, out one piece and in one piece. The truck will not move forward or backwards when I let the clutch out.
This is what I have done to simplify this.
Put the rear end up on jack stands.
If I start the truck and put the truck in Neutral, and let out the clutch the rear wheels will spin.
If I put the truck in any other gear, let out the clutch, it acts like something is bound up and if I let the clutch out all the way the engine will stall.
I have taken the shifter out and put it back a few times, figuring I have it a wrong position but looking at this, it seems like you can’t put the shifter in backwards?
Not sure of the Transmission pattern?, but any gear I put the truck in (except neutral) it acts 100% the same way.
The clutch does disengage and seems to be working. I am new to these old transmissions and must be missing something? Any help is appreciated.

Assuming it is a 3-speed it is a normal H pattern. Left and back is first, forward and right is 2nd and back and left is third.

I would never question Mac, but can't a fork be installed backward in some trannys?

With the gear box open can you slide the gears forward and back?

Some times these problems are done many years past.
The clutch seems to work and slip, the two shafts I don't think they are seized, and 2nd gear is not seized to main shaft.
My guess is the 1st and reverse gear is on backwards.
So put top cover in N and see if the gear is backwards. first and reverse should be in middle.

Guys

Thanks for the replies. I finally figured this out late today with help from a guy that knows these 3 speed trannys. The Forks where in the wrong position.
