1937 pickup-stuck windshield HELP!!!

I need some help trying to get the windshield open on my 1937 pickup. It has not been opened since who knows when. The rubber is no longer stuck to the windshield opening, so this is not the problem. The crank will not work. It is stuck completely so I am at a loss as to how to access the crank in order to either spray it with penetrant or heat it to try and make it work. The upper hinges are also stuck, but I have accessed them and will spray them until they work. (Or I will heat them to break the rust bond) My goal is to remove the dash and I am assuming there are screws along the bottom of the windshield frame which must come out in order to remove the dash. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

It's been 42 years, but if memory serves, the dash "brow" is attached with screws on its bottom side. Remove them and the brow can be removed, exposing the crank mechanism.

I have all of the bottom screws out. Something must be holding it on the top side and since I can't see the top edge of the dash because of the windshield, I don't know what that is or how to remove the dash.

On my 39 there are horizontal screws in the front pointing aft. They are between the windshield frame and the dash brow or cover. You have to be able to move the windshield a little to access them and you will need a short 90 degree screwdriver. It may be a similar set-up on your 37. If you can disconnect the regulator arms from the windshield that will help. Also, a short apex tip welded to a thin piece of steel can serve as your screwdriver, grind it short on the backside. I can send a photo if you think it will help.

It's been so long ago, I can't remember. I suspect SofaKing is right...you have to crank out the windshield a bit to remove the dash brow.

This got me thinking, my regulator is held on by three bolts that come up from the bottom into threads in the regulator. Two are accessible under the lip of the dash brow/ cover and one above the cowl vent mechanism underneath. If you take those screws out you may be able to move the regulator with the window frame providing clearance to the screws. This is assuming your windshield knob comes out the front of the dash and not the top.

I checked my 37 windshield. The window cranks out for ventilation at the bottom. The top is held by the two hinges as you mention. The only other thing that holds the frame and glass is the window cranks two arms. It has two arms that connect to two points on the lower part of the windshield frame. Un hook the crank arm pins, and free the hinges (pins in the to remove) and the window will come out. The whole window and frame pops out easy if the frame is not stuck to the truck. If you can take off the top part that sits on the dash board that has the crank handle sticks out of it. This will exposé what I mean.

I wouldn't use heat. Keep soaking it with your favorite penatrant.

If I recall on our '37 just work out the little screws under the dash and remove the dash. You'll have to take the crank handle off too obviously.

Take your time don't force it. And, once you get it loose I found there's no way to seal it up and keep the rain out!
