1937 Pickup bed

I had a 37 pickup a while back but it was a Hot Rod. I was curious if the factory bed was steel over a wood subframe and painted the body color or black?

Yes, that’s how it’s put together in my stock '37.

Hmmm. 6 inches more bed. Why would Ford Design Dept redesign the bed for '37? Possibly Chevy and Plymouth had a 6" longer bed in '36, but Ford decided to keep the '35 model in '36, but hadda catch up in '37?

The 37-model year pickup had a different tailgate than the 35/6 as well.
