1936 radio

I have a 1936 tudor sedan. I have a chance to pick up a complete radio out of a 1937 ford for a very reasonable price. My question is are these interchangeable? I know that the radio head units are not. I am wondering if the main, under the dash, tube box is going to work. I already have the proper control head for a 1936 with the cables attached. Will this work with the 1937 guts?

Do you have the external speaker for the '37 radio chassis? How about the antenna connection? Do the on/off/volume and tuning conduits on the '36 radio control head fit into the '37 radio chassis correctly? If you meet these conditions, it should work....

The late 37s without a antenna booster are much better radios than the 36 by nature of improvements. Even with them, usually there are some bad capacitors that will have to be changed by a skilled radio repair person.

I have 2 35-36 style open car type radios, the control heads won't interchange between them, one has to on-off switch in the tube box, the other in the head, the cables have "male" ends on one, female on the other-----you either need detailed pictures of the cables to compare or do a test fit to see if it would work ---the speakers are not the same as modern speakers, the magnet in the old speakers was electric and part of the tube box circuit---it can be worked around but it is not as simple as plugging in a modern speaker

I have the radio head here at my house and the radio for sale is about 100 miles away. No way to compare them without a road trip.
From the photo I was sent there does not appear to be a speaker with the unit. The lady only wants 50 dollars for the radio so I may just get it anyway. If it doesn't work out I can always resell it for that. I tried to attach the photo. Don't know if it worked yet.

I have a '36 & a '37 Ford Philco radios.. I know that the '36 & 37 receiver boxes are pretty well the same, the heads are different, inspect to the shape of the head and dial face.
I'll compare the heads to see if the cables, etc., are different.

Are the braided steel cables attached to the radio control knobs interchangeable or are they pressed on?

They are simply held in place with a screw, so should be easily interchangeable

Thank everyone for their imput. I appreciate it. That is a nice looking radio on ebay. Might be the better way to go. I may still pick up the one for sale and keep it for trade material. I'm also looking for a glove box door with clock for my 36.
