Can anyone recommend someone to repair an original 1936 gas gauge? I'm hoping someone on the Barn does this. Everything checked is leading to the gauge not working, I have removed but I'm little reluctant take the actual gauge apart.

Thanks, Pat

Have you tried to test the gauge with a six volt battery?

Connecting a battery would tell you if the gauge was good, as the pointer should move when it is connected.

Most times it is the unit in the gas tank that is having the problem.
Otherwise, there are good and even new 1936 gauges out there.

Yes, did just that and is what lead me to the gauge is the issue, everything else is working. Instrument Service in northern Illinois seems reasonable and will go thru the gauge for me, talked with them late this afternoon and seem very reasonable.

Unless you are really attached to that gauge, I would try to find a new one and probably save a few $$$.
Remember that the gauge is not the same face as a 1936 passenger vehicle.

I think the 36 pickup they used the electric (same as car) Don Rogers has stated this in many older posts here, not the hydrostatic as in the 35's - those seem to be available on the auction sites. What source has new 36 electric type?

Pat, maybe I can help. I have some old guages. Does anyone have a picture of what the face of the pickup guage looks like? terry

He has the dual gauge similar to the one in the pic. He is needing the fuel portion.Second pic.

Pat, I have 2 of the dual guages that are shown above. The lines for showing the amount of oil pressure and fuel are red. Does this matter? The 35-36 Ford book doesn't mention pickup trucks, but the red lines indicate that these guages were for deluxe 36 models. I am reluctant to just take out the fuel section of a dual guage, but would sell the whole unit to you. Sorry, but don't have just a single fuel guage as the 2nd picturen shows. terry

Just in case anyone is interested the 1936 Trucks continued with the hydrostatic gas gauge. The other gauges were the same as the car and pickup.

The reason for this is that the gas tank location remained inside the cab and only provided bottom access to the gas tank. Ford did not have an electric type gas sender which could be mounted underneath the tank.

The pickup and car gas tanks were in the rear so they could use an electric sender mounted on the top side.
