Happy day after Thanksgiving.

I'm finally sucking it up and am about to replace the fuel tank. Looking for suggestions on best fitting brands. Also, fuel gauge is always 1/2 full. would that be the sending unit? Also tips on any other parts I should order, besides a spanner wrench? Thanks, Greg

I purchased my 36’s tank from Tankinc.com. It fit without issues. My guess is that your sending unit has an issue. Check out the tank’s filler tube to make sure it is not damaged. When I replaced my tank I also replaced the gas filler neck to tank lead seal. Good luck

So no problem using my filler neck if everything seems fine? I saw one comment about needing the sleeve because of fitment, I believe it was the Plastic tank from Tanks that had the issue for one guy.

Before I placed an order I would make sure your OEM Ford sending unit will line up and screw onto the new tank. I am unaware of anyone making a new fuel tank that has the proper holes to line up with an original Ford sending unit.

I have a plastic tank with some kind of a tiny leak at the filler connection that makes the garage smell of gas. I just ordered the same setup from tanksinc including their sending unit, so I'm hoping for the best. The only thing I need to get are the 3/8" coarse thread hold down bolts.

My son got a new receiving unit and we got the original sending unit working with it by getting a good ground. So we've been into the trunk and are familiar with that part of the world.

I figure that with a new tanksinc sending unit TAN-ORG I should be okay.

Wish me luck.

If you got the old sending unit working it will be better (more accurate) for your stock gauge. There were adapters out there to use the stock sender with the later tanks.

TJ Thanks for your reply. I definitely think the sending unit is spotty. Last fall after my son got the gauge working, it went from almost empty to indicating full with 8 gallons. I drove it 60 miles and got it dropped to 1/4 tank indicated before parking it for the winter.

After driving it a little this spring, I added 4 gallons and it went from 1/8 to 3/16 indicated. Definitely not reliable.

So I'm going with the tanks inc sending unit to match the new 16 gallon tank that's 1-1/2" deeper.
