1936 mechanical brake adjustment

According to the Motors Manual, after disconnecting all 4 wheel brake rods at the wheels and after disconnecting the foot brake from the cross shaft and move the emergency brake as far forward in the release position, the cross shaft should be in the vertical position. But it isn't. it is at a slant. the cross shaft is NOS so there is no play in it. what am I doing wrong?

Follow fords procedure for adjusting. My Motors Manual adjustment is not like yours, are you doing Minor or Major adjustment??

This may help.

Thanks Terry,
I have the Ford V-8 service bulletins book. I used that. Everything is fine now. KiWinUS I don't have floaters in my 36. I put them in my 35 and there is a difference. They aren't Ted's Floaters but they are floaters.

What is the proper method to adjust the 1936 Ford brakes by turning the upper wedge adjustments? They seem to keep turning complete 360 degree revolutions. During the turning process they start to tighten up. but there is no way to lock the adjusting mechanism into place .
thanks Dave T

Hi dave t, I am not an expert but I think the wedge adjuster should click with each 1/8 (ish) turn. They don't really screw in or out more than one turn to do their deal, they are adjusted one or more clicks at a time while spinning the wheel. If yours don't work this way check things out.
