1936 Ford valve clearance question

Need some help please, I sent my 1936 LB motor to a rebuilder for a complete overhaul. I ask him to do the valve clearance at 012 on intakes and 014 on the exhaust. I put in all new straight valve assembly's and non adjustable lifters. My motor just came back and when I gauged the valve clearance the intakes fluctuated between 012 and 014 and the exhaust fluctuated between 014 and 017. My question is this going to cause any significant problem or valve train noise? I am somewhat disappointed!

The rebuilder may be good with other make's that have adjustable lifters, but
Ford to my nowledge is the only one Like a Briggs & Stratton lawnmower thats
takes time, one by one. Getting so nowadays you want something done, you
end up doing it your self. Those setting would not fly in my shop. On the
'loose' ones you have to reface the valves that sets those deeper. Tight ones
you have to grind the stems. So answer is a noisy yes. All I can say from
here is, to find someone with a valve refacer.

valve refacer picture click to make it bigger.

At the risk of being bashed for saying it, you will not have any issues with those numbers from a practical standpoint. You may possibly hear a few valves, but I would bet not. Better loose than tight. Id run it. Don't obsess about it, it will just take all the enjoyment out of it. It will be fine with those numbers.

I have one of those machines and just did my valves on my 37'took me about a week to set then at 12-14...guess it was over kill but just wanted to see if I could do it,how they did this on assembly line I'll never know, probably not as close as mine!!!

Actually Ford ran clearances like that on some of the later 8BAs, so I don't think you will have a problem.
