Building 1936 ford truck rat rod,any ideas would help, what seats would work best buckets or bench don't matter.Steering column?Any input would help thanks.

The HAMB folks are not rat rod lovers so don't waste your time.
They will tear you apart. Best bet is to join a rat rod site.

Glide seat with the bottom that folds up for access but don't bother with the center fold down arm rest.

I put a Muncie behind my flathead and reworked the center frame using Chassis Engineering parts. I modified the bottom plate to put in a stock ball mount and did not split the wishbone. Knowing what I know now, I would think about a T-5 or one of the T-170's discussed on another thread and do the same thing in not splitting the wishbone.

To get more room around the sump of the trans, you can get the wishbone ball from a Model A wishbone. I am just saying, keeping Henry's original wishbone concept gives a very good ride.

Yep, we'll be criticized on here by the intolerant purists so feel free to PM me if I can help you out.

Be sure to grease the skids with your insurance agent before you go too far. By the way, I hate rat rods and that means I like them better than most people on HAMB.

You're not a real Rat Rodder are you? A real RR wouldn't be asking for someone else's suggestion(s) real RR have enough 'attitude' to 'go it alone' and if anyone questions their choice of Apple Box, Bomber Seat, or grandpa's old armchair they get told in no uncertain terms what to do and where to go. Real Rat Rodrrrs don't ask questions 'cause real Rat Rodderrrrrrrrs already know it all, don't they...Real Rat Rodders have a tattoo of the middle finger salute on theirforearm, and if they can't be bothered speaking to someone they just flash the tattoo, or the sneer, they work on that in front of a mirror, if you get sneered at by a Rat Roddeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrr you'll know you been done by an expert.lol

OEM RatRod seats have a 2x10 across two galvanized steel buckets bolted to the floorboard.
DeLuxe models had three folded gunnysacks ducktaped to the 2x10.
Special order Dual Holer was a popular option in the day.
Seatbelts consisted of four 48" Bungee Cords, bundled with zipties.
Custom colors available from Rustoleum in convenient rattlecans.

Wow!!! you must have a degree in car building.

I believe the rat rod craze is on a declining trend. Some of the guys have started work on what they are now calling "Skunk Rods" ;)

I guess I should have used the words Old school hot rod instead of rat rod.I didn't realize there were so many high falooting sensitive people on here.sorry if you were offended. The truck isn't going to be a rust bucket junker,I just give up on trying to find steel fenders,I have everything else(don't want fiberglass)

Now that's a whole different thing! As a Purist myself, I think I can safely say that most Purists also admire and respect a well built period Hot Rod. We bow down to original backyard built Hot Rods that actually appeared on old magazine covers, and despise Billet more than anything! Thank you for the clarification and good luck with your truck! :D

Because the truck cabs are so narrow, I'd go with bench, that way in a pinch you can get three people in the cab. You can find a bench with the fold up armrest in the center so it looks like buckets and then it's a bench when you need it.

I do agree billet is out dated.I do feel guilty not taking the truck back to its original look with some modern up grades because I plan on driving it alot on long trips,But I just can't come up with the fenders.I will not resort to fiberglass,So thats why I decided to go old school hot rod,Thanks

Any ideas on where and what this style seat came in?
