We were vacationing in Glacier National Park last week and went on a very scenic trip on the "Red Buses" around Glacier park. The driver/guide mentioned that the Park has 33 of these busses that were originally acquired from 1936 to 1939. Although he mentioned that the busses have gone through some extensive remodeling including new engines, he mentioned that the original engines were flathead V6's rated at 40 hp. I had a hard time believing this. Could he be right? Thanks,

I worked near Glacier Park many years ago and I remember those busses. They were made by White. I think they had straight six engines originally but I'm not real familiar with the old White trucks.

PS: I found an article on seriouswheels that Ford, since they owned the rights to White through Volvo, performed some serious updating and refurbishing of all of the remaining busses a number of years ago. They put the refurbished bodies on specially modified Ford E-450 chassis with 5.4 litre multi-fuel engine set up to run on propane.

They really were good looking busses. White trucks were amongst the better ones back in that time frame IMHO.
