Anyone know where I can find one on these to restore or otherwise. Am working on a 36 -5 w now but wish it was a UTE.

That look like a real project, found one at Hershey a couple years ago, that needed to be finished . Guess I need to check on it Again

Buyers beware. When buying a Front Door for your open 35/36 Ford, make sure that you get the correct one, as there are 2 different length doors in Australia.
The Roadster & Phaeton share the same length front door, but the ones on the Roadster Ute are shorter.
The reason for this is because of the positioning of the Spare Wheel. It was made shorter so that the door didn't hit the Tyre.
This problem would not be a problem in the USA, but in Australia, I have heard many stories where someone has bought a front door for an open 35/36 Ford, at Swap, only to discover that it was the wrong length when they got home.
Check out the attached photos which show this difference.

Here is a 1936 Ford Coupe Ute that has managed to find its way over to the USA. They are becoming a rare breed over here these days.

That's the one that got me started on the UTEs,,,Wonder if I could modify the 36 I'm working on and put a bed on the back, that would be a real project ..

"Big Al" asked if they made Open & Closed Utes, & that is true, they did, but when you purchased a brand new Ford Ute, you had a further choice, as you had the option of the "Straight Side" version, (as all of the above are), or you could chose a "Well Side" model. The Well Side models were the more practical version, as they had a flat Side Board where Builders could carry long lengths of Timber. Most Builders added a metal stand on the front bumper with the top part the same height as the Side Board. When carrying Long lengths, long Timber was supported by this front bumper mounted bracket. The Wellside Utes were the favorites with Builders etc, but nowadays, the Straight Side models look far better with their "smooth" sides. I will post some pictures of a 1935 Wellside Ute for comparison purposes when I get time.

If contemplating giving a 5W Coupe the Ute treatment, I think you will find the roofline was different ,with the quarter side windows being smaller & a sharper drop on the rear roof panel.
The Coupe Utes of '35 & '36 look fantastic.

These photos are from the very rare original Australian Sales Brochures for the 1936 Ford V8 Utes & Panel Van (you guys call them Sedan Delivery) They depict the 4 distinct varieties of Utes that were available here. The Wellside as well as the Straight Side in both open & closed models.

Here is a 1936 Ford Coupe Ute that has managed to find its way over to the USA. They are becoming a rare breed over here these days.

Hi Mercman , it could be that they are rare here now because they have been largely unappreciated locally . I sold that Ute to collector Paul Meyer in Texas about 20 years ago after trying to find it a new home here and not getting much interest. Also was told by the resident expert in the EFV8 club here in Victoria that it wasn't worth my asking price because it was a Ute......so I thought fine...be like that :)....and promptly placed an ad in Hemmings , which led to it being shipped across too the USA where it seems to be greatly appreciated .
Here is a pic of the day we bought it and dragged it back to Victoria on the back of our '36 Coupe.....

.....I have plenty of shots taken during the rebuild, if anyone is interested just say so and I'll start a dedicated thread rather than hijack another, regards,Colin.

Old Col, You are correct. These Utes were not appreciated here in Australia back then. I remember going to a Swap Meet in the late 70's & saw a 34 Roadster Ute for sale. It appears that the buyer only wanted the Ute for the open car Cowl, doors etc, & the rest of the body was found cut up & dumped in an Industrial Skip. Now that these Utes are gaining much more interest here, the pickings are very thin. Would love to see photos of your Tin Hunts.
