In my 36 Ford cab there is a groove on the insde part of the windshield. I am not aware that there was ever anything in it since we've owned the car. It also has a 40 Ford dash, and i want to paint the dash this spring and finish off the top edge of the dash where it meets the windshield frame, and i have the trim I think will work, in additon to the upper chrome piece, but that gorrve looks like there should be something there...any ideas?

thanks

Are you missing the 36 windshield garnish molding. Much like 35 it is one piece with three sides (top and both sides).

actually I have the upper garnish, and the original dash fits up to the windshield, so inside of my inner windshield is a groove that looks like it has rubber or something in it, that is missing...

Between the metal garnish molding and the windshield surround is fender welt. Can you post a photo?

here you can see the groove inside of my upper garnish...it goes al around the frame of the windshield

I think your problem is the dash converson. Note on the 36 dash theres a small lip that reaches up to meet the garnish moulding. You might want to concider filling the whole area with 3/4" thick vynal covered welting.

If you have the proper dash (cabriolet and wagon do not have a crank hole in the center) and the proper garnish there is no separation between the two, there is overlap. If there is a gap between the garnish and the winshield surround there should be fender welt in there you have to cut down the width and may have to add two to fill the gap but just one of the top beads will show.

Its a 40 Ford dash....
so the fender welt goes behind the upper garnish and I will use a piece of trim across the top of the dash

Can I see a pic of the inside of your upper garnish where it meets the windshield?

thanks

If you got the picture of the garnish area can you please post it. I have a '36 cabriolet and I am having a tough time setting the original dash into place.
Any hints as to how to set it up or cover the gap around the window would be helpful as I don't have the garnish.
Thanks
