Hi Barners,
Has anyone used patch panels from Fred Landis? I am especially interested in the 1936 Rear fenders where they meet the Running Boards.
Thanks,
Bruce

Bruce,

I can't answer your question........

But FYI ......I purchased a 35-36 left rear patch panel for my 35 from Carpenter which was made by an US company called EMS....

It's a nice quality part and has the stiffener spot welded inside....fits well at the running board, but thats all. When it gets 3-4" above the running board it does not trac the fender contour and the side profile is wider than the fender and requires a nip and tuck....

Appreciate the reply. My car came with the EMS. They really don't match up well at all with my fender. Fred Landis only make patches for PICKUPS and he tells me they have different beads. I haven't seen them side by side yet. I'm thinking about getting his PICKUP patches and seeing what I can do with them

Apologies for the blatant thread hyjack! :o

jfc, thanks for that information as i have to do exactly that to my fender and also have the EMS patch. Wow you'll consigned much of your patch to the trash though!

Would you have further pics of your nip and tuck and how did you deal with the area above your cut down patch as this looks like it requires attention also?

Cheers
Chris

Chris,

The area above the patch was actually solid, but as I butt welded the patch panel in place, I found that there was more lead than metal in that area.

I am sorry but I dont seem to have a picture of the nip and tuck ...it was basically cutting wedges out around that curve and bending the remaining tabs in place and Mig welding them closed.....I played with a practice piece before I got into the EMS piece.

Bruce,

Sounds like you are going to use the EMS patch you have …?

Before doing any cutting on either the patch panel or existing fender, I made a template of the existing fender to use as a pattern to trace onto the EMS panel.

If your question is referring to that inner piece that backs up to the running board, then yes I removed it.

There where three spot-welds that held it in place making removal easy, then I cut the panel to obtain the actual height of the patch I needed (see photo).

In the earlier photo-post #3, where the patch was clamped onto the fender, is where I traced the template to give me an idea where I had to be with the N&T….I also removed the EMS quarter roll from the edge of the patch to make the shaping easier.

That inner piece that butts up to the running board was replaced at the end….I was able to salvage my old one however.

Hope this is a help.

Hi Sawzall,
What style 1936 were the Rear Fenders you cut up off of? I'm curious if all passenger rear fenders are the same at the Running boards?

i followed your installation, assuming the black line was your wheel opening, then you have what is called a early 35 fender. this early 35 fender has a much more radius into the wheel opening similar to your black line. these fenders are not rare but not that common either about 2% to 5% of the 35/6 fenders out there. otherwise our panels will fit 35/6 cars with out a problem.

these patches are made extra long on the hieght and on the body side for a trim to fit so the outer edge of the fender can line up with the top of the running board. where on the heigth you cut will depend on that particular wheel opening as the wheel opening was a 2nd operation and there is some varience from ford.

i hope this helps

I'm sorry Mr. EMS, not trying to bust your chops here, I appreciate that you participate in these boards, but this is one where you need to listen to your customers. A lot of your panels I like, but in two different attempts to get these pieces (hoping that the first was just a mistake) they were pretty much junk. The extra length isn't the only real issue, they are just flat out the wrong shape compared to stock. You can insist that they are just fine, but this rabid '36 multiple owner will never buy them from you again unless they are made correct, sorry.

a early 35 ford fender is till a early 35 and not a 36. i have personally installed them on 36 fords and they will fit a late 35 and 36. but as i mentioned about 2% of all 35/36 fords have these early fender mostly on 35 but many have found there way onto 36's
