1936 Distributor

My 1936 has a 2 screw coil. The rotor is the bronze color, which I believe is correct. However the points are the one piece style which I though was from the
3 screw coil type. Some catalog listings show the later distributor started in 37. Others have told me they were used in late 36. Could the new style (2 screw) have been fitted with the old style points? ANY info is appreciated.

Ford used 2 different distributor/coil combinations in 1936 production. The dome top distributor (40-12127-B) was a carry over from 1935 production. It had a domed coil fastened to the distributor with 3 round head screws and had one piece style points. In December of 1935 Ford introduced a flat top distributor (68-12137). This style had the flat top coil held on with two round head screws and it used individual contact sets ( a left and right pair) Both distributor combinations were used throughout 1936 model production.

It sounds like you may have a combination of a 68-12127 distributor with earlier one piece points and terminal plate.

Thanks. Is there an advantage to having the multiple part (4 pieces?) points?

Yes the later two part contacts also uses a smaller distributor cam and will rev up quite a bit more than the single strap points.
The spring tension on the strap points is pretty loose and may have point bounce as low as 2000-2500 rpm....

OK, so if I want to use the later 2 part contacts, I need to go to the smaller distributor cam.
Any other parts I would need to change?
Could it be that the problem i"m having (Missing on acceleration} could be due to using the old style points while I may already have the smaller distributor cam? I'm still wondering why I have the new style rotor and the old style points.
