1936 Cabriolet Side Window

I just purchased this '36 and the driver side window doesn't roll up or down evenly or fit properly at the top of the rag top. Is a new regulator what I need? Anybody been in this situation before?

Take off the upholstery and examine the rollers, the track, and the gearing. You'll also see that there are adjustments that can be made in the mounting of the operating mechanism to the door. In addition to the built-in adjustments possible, washers can be used as shims under the mounting points.

Be especially careful in handling the operating mechanism, as they are very scarce and very expensive to replace. Repairs are possible if you are good with metal. Some guys have remade the entire gear plate with good results.

It does sound as if the window regulator is incorrect for a Cabriolet. The regulator may be damaged or the window channels may be incorrect or loose. The Cabriolet side windows are very heavy and can often brake a regulator. The same regulator was used on the 36, 37 & 38 convertible Sedan front door and the 38 convertible coupe and convertible club coupe. Do remove the door panel to inspect. The only adjustments I have seen are inserted pins to limit travel they should not effect how straight the window goes up and down or the levelness of the final positions. This is set by the length of the regulator arms.
