1936 5-Window Dash/Windshield Vent

My 5-Window Coupe has what appears to be a windshield vent mounted on the left side of the dash. It has a rod attached to it under the dash to open and close the vent. Is this intended to bring in outside air? My problem is, there is nothing attached to the vent mechanism under the dash. What needs to be attached to make it usable? Also, what is the correct name for this vent?

Sounds like your talking about a defroster vent, but never had one with a rod attached to it. ken ct. Thats a very rare piece.

I don't have that on my 36, as far as I can recall (it's all in pieces, being restored).

Without a picture, I'm guessing it might be a defroster vent off the heater? No heater in my '36, so maybe that's why there is no vent?

I believe it is a defroster vent and was used with the exhaust manifold heater. I have two of these vents and they both have the damper control, so I believe you could shut off the defroster while still using the heater vent that mounted on the passenger side of the firewall.

Here are the correct items that make up the defroster attachment for a 36 defroster. The only rod operated device is on the passenger side right where the defroster tubing attaches to the heat exchanger.
