Does anyone know what springs and ball bearings, etc. I need to assemble the shifter fork shafts? Also does anyone have a picture of how they go?

You can also check with Mac VanPelt http://www.vanpeltsales.com/index.htm
You will also need the welch plugs replaced after installing the shafts/forks. I put a thin bead of red or green loctite one the edges of the welch plug to seal them. Tap the center with a socket of 1/2", and the center will push the edges out to seal. Don't go hog wild tapping on the plugs, the casting is very thin near the edges and can crack the cast iron shifter top.

You can get the springs and balls from Mac VanPelt. Balls go in first then the springs and finally the threaded caps.

I should have mentioned, in my original post, that I have the 40-7222 shifter housing. It's different from the 68-7222 shifter housing. I also have Van Pelt's book but he focuses on the 36 and later transmissions. I can't find a picture, like the one above, for the 40-7222 shifter housing.

The kit that 3rdgen sells works from 28-37 shifter tops, so the pic of the 36 and newer that's posted should show how they are assembled. Its just two plungers and a spring in the center. No balls until the double detent setup.

The shape of the shift tower from 1932 through 1935 had the angle sloped toward the rear but they were a single detent set up like the 1936 up to 37 or 38 which has the straight up vertical shift tower. The later ones were double detent types.
