1935 hydro-static fuel gauge ?

Hello all...

The final piece to my 1935 Model 48 Fordor rebuild is getting the hydro-static gauge working correctly.

My hydro-static sending unit looks OK

I replaced the air line many years back.

I have the red fluid ready to go.

My gauge was only ok... and I got my hands on one that looks really good.

Trouble is, I believe that the gauge's air line air is clogged.

Any thoughts on best manner to open it back up?

A solvent?

A wire to push through it?

Thanks!

Put some lacquer thinner in the hex fitting opening on back with small syringe. If fluid appears in sight glass its good.. I sometimes use acetone and last resort diluted hydrochloric acid .Small brushes like for cleaning spray paint guns I bought off Ebay help to scrub in the sight glass and hex on back.

Make sure the nut at the air line screws on easily with your fingers. The threads can get corroded and then its a struggle. That is why I use thread chasers. When you tighten the cone fitting on the hex with the nut I suggest a finger wipe of permatex or Hylomar blue on the taper to insure that there is no air leak.

I use an old flexible speedo or tach cable to push through as long as the line has a large enough ID and no real sharp bends. MEK or acetone cuts fuel solids pretty well.

rotorwrench, with all due respect we were talking about the line from the glass sight tube to the hex on the back of the gauge.Did you look at my tutorial ?NO way a flex speedo cable would work.
