i have some so-called NOS points for my 35 ford.
i question if these are aftermarket because there are no ford letterings on them.
did ford ever make points and not put their logo on them?
i also have a NORS condensor made by elchin of hartford, ct.
can someone tell me how to test before i install it?

The equipment to test capacitors for proper capacity, resistance, and leakage is not very common these days. If the capacitor was made with modern materials then it can set on the shelf almost indefinitely in a temperature controlled environment. If it was made with wax paper then it is likely toast. Test it in service. If it doesn't work then your ignition system won't work properly. Purchasing a new condenser or two is going to be more cost effective than trying to find a good tester.

A person can use an old distributor with a coil, a high tension lead, and a spark plug to see if it works without arcing the points excessively but it won't tell you how well it will hold up in a service environment where temps are high and the spark plugs have compression acting on them. This stuff can be simulated but it's a lot of trouble to go through.

If you wanted to send me you condenser I'd be glad to test it for you.. I have a few condenser testers that I use frequently..

The key is to heat them before testing them. This helps simulate the operating conditions it will be under as pointed out in the previous post.

Regarding the NOS ignition parts , many are terrible after setting for many yeras, the condensors dry out as they are wax paper and mica construction. The points oxidize just setting on the shelf. Buy some quality stuff and forget the NOS , they look good in the glove box and no one will know at 30 mph anyway......
