1935 Battery

Does anyone make a battery that will fit in a 35 without having to modify the frame mountings? I've been looking at the net and can not find anything less than 8 in. tall.
Thanks in advance. If Henry had not put it under the floor, no problem, but !!!!.

I believe Interstate makes the Low battery, but not pisitive. You might also try Tractor Supply. As for me, I use an Optima for my pickup. A little taller than the low battery but it will fit, at least in my pickup, which has the same battery box etc.

its called a group 1

I got a 12 volt battery that cranks out 925 cca . It is a dry cell . I can stand it on it's side , upside down. The battery is called Odessay and it is carried by Battery Warehouse. If you need 6 volt check with them , they may have something you can use.I use the stock battery compartment in my 36 3 window coupe and have no problem with height or width. The only draw back is that the battery is a little salty (expensive) around $164.00 Hey give them a call.
Good luck Bill

Bob, you can do like I did and make some new brackets that are deeper to accept the Group 1 batterys. These are bolted in. My originals were pretty well gone from the acid leaking from all the old batterys, so I had to replace them anyway. Ed

Thanks for the pics Ed. I was trying to keep from making brackets but may have to resort to it. I have a battery from Tractor supply that I use without the cover. The car doesn't have any upolstery yet so I can run it without the cover. I'm toying with the thought of making a raised cover rather than frame brackets but I will leave that decision for a later day.

Bob , the optima spins it over like a 12 volt , I have never seen a 6volt with so much power or sit for long periods & not lose any charge .
I would not consider any other battery , its a Gell cell thats why it dosnt matter if you lay it on its side or turn it upside down it wont leak or afect its performance .
Cheers
Tony

If you want the original style 2LF lead acid battery for '33-'39 Ford, that measures 10.25" x 6.75" x 8", Antique Auto Battery has them. Check this link for details http://www.antiqueautobattery.com/ford.html
Another source for that same type battery is Restoration Battery. Check this link for details http://www.restorationbattery.com/fordproducts.html

Now if you don't care about being original, IMO, I would suggest going with the Optima 6V Red Top Battery as others have suggested. I put one in my '35 last year and made up a mounting that goes right in the original battery mounting. No cutting or modifications to the original mounting is required. If I (or someone else) should ever want to go back to an original battery, the Optima and its mounting can be removed in about 10 minutes. I'll post some pictures here if I can find them. When I bought my Optima they had a sale going for $25.00 off list price and free shipping. Here is the website I used. http://www.1st-optima-batteries.com/

Bob the 6 volt Optima is the way to go. It's not more powerfull but it doesn't have the acid to contend with and they seem to hold a charge better. Here's a couple of Optima's I mounted, the 34 P/U for dual exhaust and the 35 roadster for better access. They get negleted under the floor. G.M.

Thanks Lawson. The Optima fits perfectly into that "U" shaped stainless steel sheet metal channel that I had salvaged about 30' from a building that was being torn down. The other parts, angle iron, holding clips, hardware, etc., I had on hand in my shop. The Optima sits about 2" lower than it would on the original supports giving plenty of clearance between terminal posts and underside of battery cover.
GM's engine compartment mounts are nice as well but on my mostly all original '35 fordor sedan, I wanted to keep things in the engine compartment looking as original as possible.
If anyone would like to make a battery mount like I show in my other post, for a small fee + cost of shipping I could supply a 12" length of that same SS "U" channel. If interested send me a PM.
Nice set up there JM 35 Sedan.

JM. Nice job. It looks like that may be the way to go!! Thanks for all your ideas. This is great that we have a place to ask these kinds of questions and get good honest replies. Thanks to all you Fordbarners.
