'35 and '36 steering columns are different. Look for either 48- ('35) or 68- ('36) part number in the casting on the steering box.

The '35 steering box used bushings, and the '36 steering box used needle bearings. Look at the housing for the sector. Near the splines on the sector, there will be a number cast in the housing: '35 is 48-3580 and '36 is 68-3580.

On all of the '35 steering boxes that I have the sector shaft housings all have what looks like an extra little shoulder/ring that's cast/machined into the end of the sector housing near the splined end of the sector shaft. This extra ring area is actually used for mounting an oil seal. Most of the '36 steering boxes that I have or have seen do not have this little extra shoulder/ring that's cast/machined into the end of the sector housing near the splined end of the sector shaft. In other words, that part of the sector housing on a '36 that holds the needle bearing has the same diameter all the way to its end that is near the splined end of the sector shaft. Maybe these pictures of a '35 steering columns/boxes will show you what I am talking about. I don't think I have a picture of a '36 steering box but I could take one.
