1934 Speedometer Housing and Bezel

I am restoring several 1934 speedometers. I believe this question has been asked in the past, however, a search didn’t find an answer. Were the housings zinc coated and unpainted? All of the housing that I have appear to be that way. Here is a photo of one of the housings.

2nd question: Is there still a source for reproduction bezels? I haven’t seen them on the various sites in quite a while, (should have bought some years ago) so it seems that I will have to repair the ones that I have.

Thanks,
-Mike

I HAD TO on my '33 3w because 'the red' from the fuel gauge flowed over the top and drenched the entire unit into pitting corrosion. I posted pics of it back then. I hand-sanded and rotating wire-brushed it. Be careful of 'the red' don't touch it, some say do not inhale it. (I still have the pics. - a nightmare.)

The finish of the housings depended on the manufacturer. None were zinc plated, but the Stewart Warner and Waltham housings were cadmium plated. Delco housings were painted black.

I know of no source for replacement bezels.
