1934 radiator differences question

Are there any differences in the 1934 pickup truck and car radiator?I ask this because I bought a radiator at a swap meet that the guy said came out of a 34 pickup. When I got it home I compared it to my old pickup radiator and shell and its a little shorter, about an inch, and the filler for the radiator cap is 2 3/4 inches diameter where mine is only 2 1/4 inches. The filler is so wide that it will not fit inside my radiator shell opening for the cap.I can probably work around the shorter problem, but I would have to have a new neck put on it to use it in my shell. So maybe I have a car radiator?

The only difference I have seen between car and truck is the side plates, the car plates have holes to mount the grill and hood latchs, the car radiator will go in the truck the truck plates would have to be changed or drilled. John

Well if that is the case then I think the guy I got it from probably doesn't know what a 34 Ford truck is. Thanks.

My experience is that the radiators themselves, including the side plates, are the same for passenger vs. commercial and BB's for 1933-34. Different grille mounting brackets are used, but they are easily removed/changed, and holes are in the sideplates to accomodate differences in mounting locations.

IF the radiator in fact "came out of" a 34 pickup, it clearly didn't belong there, or the guy is mistaken... There are later radiators that have a similar appearance and might have a larger filler neck and might be shorter. For 33-34 there are V8 radiators and 4Cyl radiators, but they are of similar dimensions, one with 4 inlets/outlets for V8's and one with 2 for the 4cyl and the core may be a little thinner. I have examples of both and could e-mail you a photo of the correct radiator for your 34 pickup.

why dont you post the pics and explain the differences so we all can learn sumthin?
Good idea. Here are photos of both. The lighter colored one on the right is my old original one. The black on on the left is the one I recently bought.
You can't tell from the photos, but the one on the left is a little shorter,it is noticeable once you try to put it in the shell. The bottom of my old radiator on the right is rotted off so it isn't sitting even.
You can see that the one on the left, the darker one,has a larger fill neck that will not go up into the grille shell opening. It also does not have the same grille mounting setup on the top and sides as you can see.

Ted, I think you may be right. The photo on the right looks like the one I have.Oh well, if I don't use it, I will add it to all the hundreds of other parts I buy and find out they won't work.

thats a drag getting the wrong radiator. i have a 38' and all the front sheetmetal is assembled around the radiator and you have to use the correct one or nothing lines up.
